Can You Make a Turn if a Stopped School Bus is On the Other Side of the Intersection
My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: texas
I have a specific "school bus stop" question for Texas.
I'm at a stop sign that is intersecting a four lane road (a T where only the "leg" of the t has a stop sign....ie large road has no stop signs)
I am turning left. A school bus is stopped forwards and to the right of me...waiting to proceed in the same direction I am going. So I never pass the "flip out stop sign on the bus".
I do wait for quite awhile and make it very clear that i lookng around repeatedly for children.
I totally respect the laws that make children safe and by no means drive fast or aggressively any where near a bus.
Am I, by law, supposed to wait? Or does the fact that I never pass the bus or the area children cross to get on the bus, make it ok?
Thanks!

Re: Not Actually Passing a Bus But
You answered your own question... if you did not pass "flip out stop sign on the bus", then you are not guilty. And you will definitely need the diagram showing that in court.

Re: Not Actually Passing a Bus But
Ok, that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure. It would seem some states would call it a violation, but from what I have found, Texas does not.
Thank you.
Anyone else care to advise?

A driver, when approaching from either direction a school bus stopped on the highway to receive or discharge a student, must stop before reaching the school bus when the bus is operating a stop signal. The driver may not proceed until the school bus resumes motion, the driver is signaled by the bus driver to proceed, or the visual signal is no longer activated.A driver on a highway with separate roadways is not required to stop for a school bus that is on a different roadway. A driver on a controlled-access highway is not required to stop for a school bus that is in a loading zone that is a part of or adjacent to the highway and where pedestrians are not permitted to cross the roadway.

I would suggest you stop.

Yes, I plan on doing so in the future, but in this case, a self appointed neighborhood parent, who was standing in middle of road, aggressively waved me through, and in a fluster, I followed his orders. Lol.

Re: Can You Make a Turn if a Stopped School Bus is On the Other Side of the Intersect
No sir/mam. I frequent the neighborhood and want to have my facts straight the next time I am told to proceed by the "boss man". ie "I do not your advice sir, the law says I need to stop", or "ok, cool...I shall proceed"
Want to know what is correct because I plan on confrontation being eminent

Re: Can You Make a Turn if a Stopped School Bus is On the Other Side of the Intersect
If you do not pass the school bus that is traveling parallel to you prior to your turn because you turn at an intersection before the front of your car even reaches the school bus it, you would not have committed the offense of passing the school bus when its red lights are flashing.

Quoting Mr. Knowitall
The arguable point is that if the bus is stopped at an intersection if "either direction" includes the cross street. Frankly, with "either" it seems to imply traffic on the same road. This is in contrast to the law in my state which says "any direction" which pretty much includes the intersecting street.
